Ciudad Sandino is one of the youngest cities of Latin America and certainly the youngest in the region. Born as a neighborhood of Managua in 1970, where the victims of heavy flooding that occurred in the Malecón were relocated to the area. With the earthquake in Managua (1972) was extended and the triumph of the Sandinista revolution in 1979 was given its present name.

It is the area that has undergone population growth of Managua, the level in 2000 was declared an independent municipality of the capital and raised to the status of city.

Itself does not have much interest and is practically a residential town, although there are good restaurants and eateries, as well as hotels and lodging for travelers.

Although owns part of the shore of Lake Managua, is still not exploited tourist.

The festivities are celebrated in honor of San francisco javier December 3.

Getting to Ciudad Sandino from Managua is simple, since it is located at kilometer 12 ½ of the new road to the department of León.
